Although dental hygiene is one of the most important aspects of a healthy existence, people frequently overlook it until it’s too late. We tend to only think about our dental health whenever there’s a problem, without realizing that prevention is far better than treatment. At Sovereign Dental Care, we focus on promoting correct dental hygiene throughout the year, regardless if there’s a problem or not.
What does dental hygiene in Brentwood mean, exactly?
We know that the term can be a little vague. After all, what is dental hygiene? Are we talking about brushing your teeth? Of course you do that!
And while that’s all good and well, brushing your teeth is only a small part of what your dental hygiene routine should look like. To be fair, there are two types of dental hygiene: the one you can do at home, by yourself, and the one we’ll be performing here, at Sovereign Dental Care.
Dental Hygiene at Sovereign: what do we do?
Some people think that you only go to the dentist if you’ve got a toothache. But that’s not how it should be. In truth, you should visit your local Brentwood dentist on a regular basis for maintenance work, and to make sure nothing’s wrong!
Often, your dentist can spot warning signs and potential problems long before you feel them. So that’s why you should be visiting your dentist at least once every six months. Of course, the more check-ups you get, the easier it is to make sure nothing’s wrong. In that case, you might consider going to your local dentist every 3-4 months.
Our dental hygiene service at Sovereign Dental Care consists of multiple steps:
●Assessment: first, your dental hygienist or dentist will inspect your mouth and assess the situation, to determine whether you only need a simple dental hygiene clean-up, or something more advanced.
●The Clean-Up: Assuming there’s nothing wrong with your teeth, they will then proceed to thoroughly clean your gums and your teeth, using special equipment that protects your mouth, while at the same time removing dirt and bacteria.
●Plaque Removal: During your dental hygiene procedure, your dentist will also remove any plaque from the surface of your teeth. Not only does this improve oral health, it can also improve the appearance of your teeth.
In case you also require bridges, dentures, or other such fixtures to restore that brilliant smile, your dentist will advise you on the best course of action.
After the clean-up itself is over, your dental expert will advise you on other hygiene steps and practices you can include in your daily routine for optimal health.
At-Home Dental Hygiene Routine
Just because your appointment at Sovereign Dental Care has ended, that doesn’t mean your hygiene practice should. On the contrary, you should also make sure you take the appropriate measures to maintain healthy teeth at home.
These include regularly brushing your teeth (and replacing your toothbrush!) at least twice a day, flossing daily, and using mouthwash. Don’t worry, your local dentist at Sovereign Dental Care will advise you on how to do these things correctly!
