Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth, to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they work. It can also help to look after the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by spreading the biting pressure over all your teeth. Orthodontics plays an important role in improving overall oral health. It helps create balance and harmony between the teeth and face for a beautiful, healthy smile. Healthy teeth can be moved with braces at any age. In recent years there have been huge advancements in brace technology, particularly with regard to discrete braces and our orthodontist, Dr Purnima Chhabra, will be happy to discuss these with you. Purnima works closely with your own dentist and our other Specialists, to ensure that the best possible result is achieved.

Any dentist can provide orthodontic treatment. However, Specialist Orthodontists under take a further 3 years of full time training, in addition to the 5 years that it takes to qualify as a dentist. At our Brentwood Dental Centre in Essex, our orthodontist, Purnima, has also undergone higher training, to become a hospital Orthodontic Consultant, treating the most difficult orthodontic cases.

What to expect on your first appointment

The purpose of this appointment is to get an understanding of your concerns and to assess your teeth and bite. X-rays are usually taken to assist the diagnosis and planning. Purnima will then explain to you the options that are suitable for your needs to give you the best smile possible. A full report will be sent back to your general dentist, and you will be given a quotation for the cost of the treatment. Once the treatment plan is agreed, you are ready to start treatment at the next visit.
